Blossom

sprayIf only menopause felt like a relaxing day at the beach, where you’re being rewarded for surviving womanhood.  Unfortunately, it’s just another chapter in the book of punishment for eating fruit.  I haven’t been there yet, but I hear it’s like an internal inferno made to destroy women with fire, hormones, and unwanted extra hair.  It’s World Menopause Day!

Meet your doom with a fight.  If you’re premenopausal, celebrate today by researching information about your impending tropical storm (although I hear rain levels tend to dwindle).  Learn the symptoms, what to expect, and all the natural potions and concoctions that will ease the transition. If you’re menopausal, try some of the concoctions and join a prayer circle. If you’re post, celebrate by leading the prayer circle. Share your knowledge, experience, and sympathy about the menopausal journey most of us will take. Then enjoy the benefits. Your flower has blossomed and it can’t get pregnant.  Celebrate and…

Rock the 19th

Although I don’t know what some women were thinking this past presidential election, today we celebrate their right to F up. It’s Women’s Equality Day!  On this day, in 1920, the 19th Amendment gave women the legal right to vote. Since then we’ve taken some giant leaps forward (and a few baby steps backward).

Celebrate today by thinking about all that has been accomplished with the support, partnership, and leadership of women voters.  Women have played key roles in elections and the passing of legislation at local, state, and federal levels.  The impact of women voters can’t be denied.  If you are a woman of voting age take today to think about how you use your vote.  Maybe you need to register, maybe you need to get involved in local government, or maybe you just need to read the entire ballot book the next time you receive it in the mail.  Being involved in creating laws and choosing leaders to represent you isn’t a privilege, it’s a right, one women had to fight to receive.  Don’t take your voice lightly.  Have fun and…

“She’s Funny That Way”

What do you get in New Jersey when you cross a Palestinian, Muslim woman with Cerebral Palsy?

It’s National “She’s Funny That Way” Day and we are celebrating female comedians!

For those of you who don’t know, let me introduce Maysoon Zayid.  I heard her on the radio this past Sunday and she was hilarious!  I truly encourage you to listen to the entire video.  She was giving an interview on NPR radio and I couldn’t stop laughing.

whoopi frontMy favorite female comedian is Whoopi Goldberg, so, shout out to Whoopi!  She is so funny, humble, witty, and unapologetically her imperfect self.  You don’t have to agree, but I love almost everything about Whoopi!   I also want to celebrate historians like Jackie “Moms” Mabley, Carol Burnett, Joan Rivers, and Lucille Ball.  There are so many female comedians who have broken barriers, crossed boundaries and transformed the standards of comedy.  I love to laugh, so I’m all for having a comedy night party to celebrate our queens of laughter.

Today, I encourage you to look for new, not necessarily young, but, new comedians.  Search for those who haven’t made it mainstream, but those who are still working and most importantly are funny!  Laughter is a great gift and being able to use humor to create change is even better. To me, comedy is like music, laughter, like music, can reach anyone and open our minds to embrace different points of view.  Sure there are different types of humor, but I’ve never met anyone who said, “I hate to laugh.”  Well, I saw this one interview that claimed Kim Kardashian said she was scared of creating permanent laugh lines on her face.  I don’t know if it is true.  I didn’t do any research because I thought true or false, it’s stupid and her issue.   Look, there’s Botox and also, who cares.

Take a risk, have a laugh, and HOLIDAY ON MY FRIENDS!!

What Queens of  Laughter do you want to recognize today?

Tools, not him,…actual tools.

Today is Worship of Tools Day.   I don’t mean the annoying, slightly sexiest guy in your office, which would be a crazy thing to celebrate, I mean actual tools; wrenches, hammers, drills, etcetera.  Really?  We need a day to celebrate tools?   I guess we do.

My personal opinion is that after International Working Women’s Day, someone (a guy) needed a little validation and decided it should be Worship Tools Day, to show off their collection and reiterate the relevance of the men, “handy” men, who fix things or who collect tools and pretend to fix things.  Personally, I’m not worshiping anything that doesn’t begin with a JE- and end with -SUS. And, these days, women own tools too (sticks out tongue).  So today, I will pull out my lavender and gray tool bag,  spread out my pastel tools, and reminisce about the many projects we’ve completed together.

On the other hand, I would like to take a minute of silence to honor the men, who have helped me along the way (silently counts to 60).  I have been fortunate enough to know some very handy men, who have taught me to use tools, all kinds of tools, shiny tools, big tools, little tools, even power tools.  Thank you!  Here’s a special shout out to the guys, who used their tools to help me by fixing my car, putting up my mailbox, completing my honey-do-list, and making my dreams come true. I truly appreciate you all!  Despite my sometimes sarcastic tongue, I greatly appreciate men, who can and will use their tools to do the things I can’t or don’t want to do.  You’ve helped me out in many situations and there is something pretty cool about a guy in overalls, using a power saw, with sparks flying everywhere, only protecting himself with tiny sunglasses.

In case you aren’t the handyman type of person, my sources tell me all tools can be celebrated today.  Do you grill, sew, sculpt mini villages in the privacy of your own home? Celebrate those tools too!

All tools matter.

Holiday on my friends!

International Working Women’s Day

This woman looks like she is about to guide a large truck through a small area.  At least she is posed to look like she is doing some heavy lifting.  Her perfect manicure tells me her actual job may be posing and not the manual labor for which she is dressed.   Either way, she is working and that is what we are celebrating today.  It’s International Working Women’s Day!

Celebrated since 1911 in support of better working conditions for women, this holiday is supported by the United Nations and celebrated in 28 countries around the world.  I don’t know if the best way to celebrate is to work or take the day off, but celebrate we must, so whatever your plans are for today, include a personal march with signs, balloons and mini cupcakes.  Have a wonderful day and Holiday on my friends!
